Sports’ Jon Heyman, Mets general partner Kevin Long is believed to be in play.
Long is the Mets’ general partner in the team’s front office.
The Mets have a need at third base with the arrival of Curtis Granderson and Matt Holliday.
In 2016, Teixes was the Mets second-leading third baseman with 18 homers, but he had his season cut short with an elbow injury.
Teixseira is expected to miss about six weeks with his injury.
The Mets could also look to upgrade at third with the emergence of Alex Gordon and the return of Jorge Alfaro.
