The first big US hotel to open in Mumbai, India’s second-largest city, on Wednesday will attract more than 30,000 guests.
The hotel will be the second hotel of its kind to open here in the past year, with the first opening in April this year.
It will be built by the Indian-owned Taj Mahal hotel and casino chain, according to a company statement.
The Taj Mahas is owned by the state-run Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries, which has been facing criticism from critics over poor infrastructure in the country’s capital, which is the site of the Taj Mahallik II, the world’s tallest building.
The hotel is one of several such buildings planned in the Indian capital, but is expected to cost as much as $300 million to build.
India’s second largest city, Mumbai, has been plagued by air pollution in recent years, with residents reporting smog in many parts of the city.
The World Health Organization said in January that air pollution was the third-leading cause of death for Indians aged 15 to 64 in 2015.
